AFCA is excited to be launching Project Cradle, to help newborns and their mothers living with HIV/AIDS. A donation to Project Cradle in the name is of loved one can be an especially meaningful gesture: it honors the people in our lives who nurtured us and helps new mothers in sub-Saharan Africa to do the same.
Every new mother wants her baby to have the best start in life. For HIV+ mothers in sub-Saharan Africa, this huge responsibility is even more of a challenge. Like mothers anywhere, they want their babies to be safe, clean, and well cared for. Yet, because of the social pressures around their health status, they don’t get much support. Too often, their babies leave the hospital in used towels or torn pieces of cloth and go home to even less.
Through Project Cradle, you can make a difference. AFCA will give new layette kits to mothers in the medical settings we work with. For just a $30 donation, new mothers will receive:
- 6 cloth diapers
- 2 shirts
- 2 wash cloths
- 2 gowns or sleepers
- 1 diaper pins
- 1 sweater or jacket
- 2 receiving blankets
With this layette kit, new mothers and babies go home with practical supplies that they need to start their lives. This seemingly small gesture makes a huge difference to the mothers who receive the layette kits. It gives a gift that goes beyond money – an extra burst of pride and confidence as they tackle the challenges and joys of being a new mother.
This spring, consider honoring the women in your life with a donation to AFCA’s Project Cradle. They gave their babies a good start in life. Your donation can help other women to do the same. Donate now!
